With a record 10 Champions League/European Cup titles to their name, Real Madrid can justifiably claim to be the most successful football team in European history. Founded in 1902, Los Blancos (the Whites) have since dominated domestic football for long spells and, along with their age-old rivals FC Barcelona, have come to represent the essence of Spanish footballing excellence. Current first-team players include global superstars Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos. The youth team is one of the world’s most successful academies – La Fabrica (the factory), which has been responsible for producing some of the most talented individuals ever to have played the game. Graduates include Raul, Iker Casillas, Juan Mata, Samuel Eto’o and Esteban Cambiasso. The academy players train at Real Madrid Ciudad (Real Madrid City), a $140m complex that also hosts the senior squad.
