U17: Rangers FC Vs Seattle Sounders Post-Match Conference Day 1

Following a competitive match in the U17 International Tournament, Rangers’ coach Laurie Ellis and Seattle Sounders’ coach Ethan O’Neill shared their thoughts on the game, their teams’ performances, and the significance of the tournament.

Laurie Ellis (Rangers’ Coach):
Ellis expressed his gratitude to the tournament organizers for their exceptional hospitality and organization. He was delighted with his team’s strong start, securing a 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders and earning three crucial points in their opening match.

Commenting on the Aspire Academy vs. Mohammed VI Academy match, Ellis mentioned that one of his staff members observed the game and provided him with a positive impression of both teams.

Speaking about the tournament, he highlighted its high level of competition, emphasizing that his team is facing strong opponents they are not used to playing against. He sees this as a valuable opportunity to develop his squad and gain crucial experience at this stage.

When asked about the late goals, he explained that his team missed chances in the first half but managed to capitalize on their opportunities in the second half, scoring two goals and securing the win.

Ethan O’Neill (Seattle Sounders’ Coach):
Despite the 2-0 loss, O’Neill was pleased with his team’s overall performance, stating that they played well but failed to convert their scoring chances. He acknowledged Rangers’ ability to take advantage of key moments and score two decisive goals.

O’Neill emphasized that the tournament is a learning experience for his players, especially as this is Seattle Sounders’ first participation in the competition. He believes his team can improve in the next match and bounce back stronger.

Drawing inspiration from Argentina’s 2022 World Cup campaign, he noted that Argentina lost their opening match but went on to win the tournament, and he hopes his team can achieve a similar comeback.

He also highlighted the growth of football in the United States, stating that participating in international tournaments like this helps develop young players and prepare them for higher levels of competition. He praised the tournament’s exceptional organization, from facilities to accommodations, noting that such professionalism helps players perform at their best.

As the tournament progresses, both coaches are eager to see their teams develop and compete at a high level.
